Thinking and designing the Fés University

PROGRAMME

The chair: Michael Krohn, Professor, Industrial Design, University of Applied Sciences and Arts Zurich, Switzerland, michael.krohn@hgkz.ch

A group of Swiss designers, architects, editors, photographs etc is starting up a project that is about the thinking and designing for an "ideal" International Design University located in Fés, Morocco.

Fés is not only one of the oldest Universities of the world it is also an example for an interdisciplinary academic research community. As a peaceful melting pot between religions and European, Arabian and African cultures, Fés should be the virtual host for our thoughts.

First, this is only a virtual project which reflects how this University could be "designed". Starting in Lisbon, we ask interested persons from all disciplines to participate. We like to discuss and contribute ideas for the project. How could this Fés University become a successful place for future design and art education? We are planning to publish selected contributions in a book in the end of 2005. If possible, we will have a follow up in the next CUMULUS conference 23-25 September in Copenhagen.

For this reason, we open a special forum in Lisbon, inviting all interested CUMULUS members to discuss. The forum will be hosted by Daniel Imboden (Co-Editor of the book) and Prof. Michael Krohn, University of Applied Sciences and Arts Zurich.
